Broker's Comments
PLEASE NOTE.
The vessel is not available until probate issues are resolved.
Boatshed Midi Canals are please to offer for sale this Southerly 100 in the south of France. We had been asked to visit and list this boat for the owner, due to the loss of her husband. We were not sure what to expect on our visit. However, after boarding this southerly 100 sail boat, we soon discovered the extend to which the owner had loving maintained this impression vessel. The condition is outstanding. The equipment level is more in line with what you might expect on a much larger boat and is all included in the sale price.
The owner had worked as a marine engineer and was part of hire boat fleet maintenance team. It would seem that he spent much of his free time lovingly tinkering and updating his own boat.
This boatbid an absolute credit and monument to it owners.
Beyond my findings as above, the general design of these Southerly is equally as impressive. When considering her 10m length and lifting keel housing, the first impression of the space and comfort is overwhelming. With sleeping for 5 in comfortable. Dinette space for at least 5, a second inside helm station as well as the cockpit helm station with wheel, the us goes on.
Over the years Southerly yachts have built up a justifiably impressive reputation based on their ability to sail safely in seriously adverse conditions, yet are able to dry out when required. Key to this is the marques signature lifting keel, contained within a massive ballasted grounding plate, which steers the boat to windward when down but which, when wound up into the keel case, allows her to negotiate very shallow water and dry out if required. More centre cockpit deck saloon than motor sailer, the galley and inside helm position are located inside the companionway to port and starboard respectively, then down a couple of steps to the big saloon. Forward is a twin berth cabin. The saloon table drops down to form an enormous double, and there is further accommodation to the rear in the form of a quarter-berth.
Currently, the boat is moored near the late owners place of work so in on the Canal du Midi. Her mast is resting on cradles on the boat and the sails are inside the boat. The boom is being stored at the house but will be delivered to the boat. Obviously, the boat is not set up to sail but everything necessary to re-mount the mast, re-rig and sail away is, as far as we know, included with the boat and sale. This vessel is not to be confused with the often seen abandoned sail boats on the canal network. She is absolutely at the opposite end of the spectrum and well worth a visit. If you buy this boat, she is ready to navigate all of the inland waterway of Europe. She can also navigate for about two days and arrive at the coast where she can stretch her sails once again.
