Broker's Comments

The Westerly story begins in 1963 with the Westerly 22, designed and built by Commander D A Rayner. The company quickly grew to become Britains biggest yacht building company and a world leader in mass-appeal family yachts. In 1967 the 22 was upgraded to the Nomad. These early yachts rightly took the growing family sailing market by storm. Built to Lloyds scantlings each yacht came with a Series Production Certificate. The expression "built like a brick outhouse" springs to mind! The accomodation is well thought out for practical life at sea, with four full length berths in two cabins, a separate heads compartment, a good sea-safe galley and standing headroom for all but the tallest sailor. Deck work is made safe and easy by the full width coachroof which provides a vitually flush deck. In this respect the Nomad puts many larger and more modern yachts to shame. No shuffling along vestigial side decks on this yacht! Her trusty MD1 will thump along all day on a couple of gallons of diesel, and this one has had a recent overhaul and looks to be in great shape. This yacht would make a fine first family cruiser for estuary and coastal sailing, but in the right hands she is well capable of longer offshore passages. Yachts of this size and quality are simply not built today in any quantity. The few equivalent models which are available today cost ten times the asking price of this yacht. She is beautifully presented by her capable and caring owner and is ready to sail, with a tender included. If you are looking for a vessel of this type you would be very unlikely to find a better one, and certainly not locally at this price.
