Broker's Comments
The Norwegian Troll 32 was based upon the hull shape of the Notbåter, the net boats feeding the Herring trawlers working the west coast of Norway. Double-ended with high freeboard they were renowned for their sea-keeping abilities. Seeing them working during the winter of 1958, the designer contacted Askviks Yard with his initial drawings with the ideal of converting these commercial boats into motor sailers.
Between 1960-70, 130 Troll 32's were built and sold all over the world, including the UK where they were shown at Earls Court, as part of the prestigious London Boat Show. There were enough Troll owners in England then to host their own owner's party!
This particular example has been in the same ownership for 42 years and has been both owner and yard maintained throughout. She comes with a file of history including a letter from the designer himself.
When you stand in the cockpit you understand how these boats have travelled as far as they have. Not just the unforgiving Scandinavian coasts but across the Bay of Biscay and beyond into the Mediterranean.
Moving around above decks feels safe and secure, everything well laid out and solid. And then you go below and that's where the comparison with any fishing boat ends. Warm and inviting, the quality of fit out from build is evident, as is her years of care and maintenance by long-term, highly experienced owners. Her traditional layout has a spacious feel and there's plenty of usable storage both below and in the cockpit.
She's recently come ashore (July 2023); she appears bright and tidy above decks, clean and fresh below and is available for easy inspection.
