The rig is based on Nigel Irens high peaked lug rig. This has 148 sq ft between 2 sails.
No boom means that the boat has a safe feel, with no-one getting a bumped head.

The spars can be cunningly rearranged with a spare set of sails to produce a sprit rig if you prefer that.

The main mast is 'planted' through the deck and into a step that has been considerably strengthened from the original and is now very robust.

All the spars are standard aluminium tube sections of various appropriate diameters. The rig is surprisingly robust.

The blue sails were made by the original designer of the rig. The present owner has added some reinforcing tapes and improved the battens slightly. The sails set well. The mainsheet arrangement is unusual in that it needs to be swapped from one side to the other on every tack or gybe. However, the sheeting angles are right for good performance and a little practice and good seamanship may be required to tack and gybe smoothly.

The construction of this boat is very solid and is worthy of a 40 ft yacht. It is all done to Chapelle's scantlings with the planking 1 1/8" thick. the boat is built in mahogany plank with Iroko deck and fitout.
The few massive frames & floors with longitudinal framing under the floorboards makes for a very clean and uncluttered internal layout.
The upper chine is planked along the boat and the joints are splined using copper roves.

The underwater chine is crossplanked as is correct for this type. (not splined)

The planks are attached to the frames with steel nails.

Accommodation

Plenty of space in the relatively shallow cockpit. Room to sleep 2 on board, plus a couple of small people but there is no cockpit tent.

Classic wooden 21' dayboat built for 1st Douarnenez festival 1986 by Lytham Marine to lines, scantlings and method in Chapelle's 'American small craft' P 319, 'Maryland Tonging Skiff' from the Chesapeake Bay.
Rigged with Roxanne / Romilly style lug sails on alloy spars. Also has sprit sails for use with same spars.
Roomy shallow draught daysailer solidly built in mahogany plank.

Ideal picnic boat for protected waters.

The boat has been kept afloat in summer and in indoor storage during the winter in this ownership since 2007.

Reason for sale is that the owner is moving overseas and needs someone else to take on the stewardship of this lovely wooden daysailer.
