Broker's Comments
Shipbuilding started at the Whitehall Shipyard in Whitby around 1700, under the ownership of Thomas Turnbull and Son. They began with building wooden sailing ships but they continued for almost 3 centuries designing and building smaller vessels, especially for the harsh North Sea conditions and often for commercial use.
The Whitby 36 was one of the last boats to come out of that yard, built to a standard that was starting to become unsustainable. That build quality though has meant that 50 years on this boat is still very much in commission, she's looking fantastic and whilst she has had refits and sympathetic upgrades still oozes the traditional character of Whitby shipbuilding
On deck she is clear and uncluttered, a great working space aft (she has a cover but not fitted), easy to move around the side decks and a tidy foredeck. Below she is well laid out to suit either day running with a large enclosed cockpit area and great visibility, or for staying aboard the forward cabin is comfortable with lots of storage.
Her 2007 refit was clearly extensive and she appears very well cared for since. Keep her clean and coated and I'm sure we'll see her in another 50 years!
