Heavy GRP layup built in 1976 by Alajuela Yacht Corp in California. This particular yacht was commissioned in 1977. 72 of these William Atkin / Colin Archer designed boats were built from 1977 through 1985.
Long full keel, heavy barn door style rudder and well protected propeller.
This boat’s gel coat has been painted with Awl Grip (both hull and deck) while touring Central America. Most of the exterior wood structural parts (bulwarks, winch bases, rudder cap) have been replaced with Honduran Mahogany. The Sampson post has been replaced with stainless steel. Much of the structure of the bow sprit has been rebuilt as well. The teak cap rail on the shear was re-installed and left natural. Cockpit teak is in good condition.

Upon entering through the companionway and down four steps to the parquet-floored interior of this boat the size of this Alajuela will be appreciated. There is lots of headroom. The galley is to starboard -- it’s modest but has everything you need: Alder-Barber refer, two burner stove with oven, a big single basin sink and plenty of counter space. The full size nav table is to port and offers additional counter space while not underway. Two settees, one on either side, make up the salon with a decent sized pilot berth to port now being used as storage. The salon table folds out of the way. The headliner is clean and bright, with opening bronze portlights lining the cabin truck and an opening Lewmar hatch. Forward is an entry to a good sized master cabin with head that has its own door, a hanging locker, dressing seat, vanity and a large queen size berth with inner spring mattress. A large Lewmar hatch brings in light and air. New Dickenson cabin heat 2011.

Comentario del broker
The Alajuela 38 is an excellent and proven bluewater cruiser, this one having spent most of the past 15 years in exotic places like Cartagena, Cuba and twice through the Panama Canal. The interior feels large and has been used as a live aboard for a couple. With some very modest updating she can be made ready to journey again to wherever the weather suits you.
Similar in style to the Tayana 37 or the Union 36 this boat is about 5-6000 pounds heavier. Her underwater profile, canoe stern and kind motion in a seaway has kept her owner comfortable and safe through many thousands of miles of ocean travel.
