This is where we publish our boat related stories and articles, which range from world circumnavigation to rescue missions, humour and much, much more. So make yourself a coffee and settle yourself down to a good read.
Everybody interested in French waterways knows about the famous Pénichettes® hire boats from LOCABOAT but what about the man behind the creation?
The next auction takes place between 15th to 19th April 2016, here's a preview of some of the boats entered into the auction:
Some of you will be polishing cleaning and dewinterising whilst others will be getting the itch to buy their next (or their first) boat. After a few seasons spent renting a hire cruiser or just talking to the boaters whilst strolling the towpaths and marinas now is the time to take the plunge. Whether you’re buying for the first time or not many of the same problems will be facing you. What type of boat for what type of navigation? Blue water or coastal? Canal and river cruising? A mix of all the above? What style? Motor cruiser, barge, steel hull versus GRP? Once you’ve eliminated a number of options other worries will commence, like, " Will the boat I’ve seen in the adverts match up to the boats I will see when I visit? This is one aspect you can be sure of when drawing up a short list of boats for sale on Boatshed Bourgogne.com. or Boatshed Midi Canals.com. All our photos & videos are taken by our brokers so not only are they a true representation of current condition but having “crawled through, over and under” the boat, the broker knows it well enough to advise on condition and suitability for your particular project. Live-aboard or weekender it is not only the quality of our information that counts but our ability to listen and respond to individual needs and personal requirements. Our goal is not to sell you a boat but to help you find the boat you will want to buy.
Worth a visit. Moret sur Loing has three small marinas to welcome passing pleasure boaters and a warm welcome it will be too. Marina "Capitaine" is Lorette Levis, formerly a bargee a mine of useful information. All services in the town and supplies can even be delivered to you boat.
We want our customers to feel valued, informed and, well…… loved. Instead of us keeping all the useful information about boat sales to ourselves, we have developed some tools to allow our customers to keep themselves informed whilst selling a boat and when looking for a new boat.
First lets decide on a name!! The Canal DE Berry or Canal DU Berry? Well, the old province of Berry was known as the Province DU Berry, so why not the canal the Canal Du Berry? Well, because it is named after the Duc DE Berry and therefore known as the Canal DE Berry. Now that’s settled, let’s look at the route and it’s future.
The wildlife makes no distinction. Dutch barge, steel cruiser or hire boat, they all make a great landing place from time to time. A butterfly on the roof, a dragonfly on the bollards and yet as soon as you reach for the camera….. “pouf” GONE AGAIN. For most of us pleasure boaters the art of animal photography seems very frustrating!
2015 saw a revival of commercial traffic on some “Freycinet”* canals in France. Traffic from the Paris region carrying building site debris passes up the Seine River via the Canal du Loing to a landfill site at Givry on the Canal Latéral à la Loire. For the return journey these péniches are loaded with 245 tonnes of sand from a nearby quarry to be used in the Paris building industry.
Here at Boatshed we have some fabulous brokers and today we’d like to put the spotlight on Graham Wharmby who is the Boatshed broker for Bourgogne, Midi Canals, St Malo and France.
At 480 kilometers long the Saône river is one of the most important river navigations in France and the town of Port sur Saône is to be found on the upper reaches often referred to as the Petite Saône. The upper Saône river is a joy to navigate with French countryside and culture at every turn. Port sur Saône is also where you will find the boat yard and marina run by Franche Comté Nautic, a family team headed by José Salas and his partner Valerie.
For none European nationals the 90 day stay rule can severely limit the appeal of buying a boat to cruise the French canals and rivers.
L’ENTENTE desCANAUX du CENTRE … c’est quoi et comment ça marche ?
BoatBid enables the boat buyer to bid with the confidence that any boat can be surveyed and sea trialed before you make the decision to purchase. The transaction is handled by one of Boatshed's brokers.
The next auction runs from Friday 29th January until Tuesday 2nd February 2016

Le bateau idéal existe-t-il ? Oui ! Sans aucun doute ! Mais quel est-il ?
